Rear Extension (restricted access)
A semi-detached property which has been extended on the rear. The new rear wall being almost filled by a 3-section sliding door system with narrow sight-lines. The more southerly aspect having a large fixed window and roof lantern on top allowing light to fill the space. The extension has replaced existing patio area which had little benefit to wildlife but with the introduction of a sedum roof has increased biodiversity. The sedum roof also adds to insulating qualities of the roof through the colder seasons and has a cooling effect through more intensely hot periods.
Roof lanterns are excellent in allowing light through and giving a great view of the outside world on a sunny day, but also have that extra factor in the evening when the room gets reflected back.
This extension has brought more living space and changed the entire feel of the ground floor. It brings the feeling of being involved with the outside but with the comfort of being indoors. The sliding doors open both ways and opens up the extension to the garden. Natural light floods the area giving warmth on the sunny days, which is retained throughout the evening. This is definitely a wise choice for anyone looking to increase living space with something that has a real wow factor.
